Oban' and on the flyleaf is '[deleted: Twas] Friday 2 Sep[tember]. 1870. 12 noon from Ob[an]'. Folios 1-3r and 75r to 117v are blank. The text on folio 3v and 4r and 4v is written updside down and is later text (29 January 1875). Scope and Contents

Note that the caibeal [chapel] and leacain cinn [headstones] at Cilleachain [possibly Balimackillichan], Lios Mòr/Lismore, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire, 'are still seen on the Eirebal mor'. Carmichael notes that theres are '3 Eirebals' namely Eirebal Mòr, Eirebal Beag and Eirebal-an-fhaing. The last places on the island to retain wood were Aoine and Alasra.

Note about gravestones on Inch Kenneth, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire including that of Sir Allan Maclean, describing its dimensions and carvings: 'effigy in full high[land] dress target and clogaid [helmet]'. Also notes that the stone used in the church is 'Iona stone' and describes some of the stones inside the building. Carmichael adds that there is a good well east of the [resting place] of Macinnon [MacKinnon] of Gribun, which itself is east of the church.

Note about Lighe sgeir that it is 'on a line between Musdail and Bearnaray' [Liath Sgeir, Eilean Musdile and Bernera Island, all Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire], it was where rock was quarried for gravestones in Iona [Ì Chaluim Chille], that the quarrying marks are still visible and that the rock itself is visible at half tide opposite Cailleach [Campber].

Note on stones and graveyard on Inch Kenneth, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire noting the gravestones as being of 'native stone', one marked as 'H M 1676', and telling how the graveyard had been 'more extensive' as a farmer had ploughed up 'cut skulls', noting the present farmer to be Lach[lan] Campbell.
